La Trobe University HerbariumVolunteering

Volunteering

Our volunteers play a vital role in the Herbarium, helping with expanding and managing the collection. Current students are invited to apply to volunteer at the Herbarium, assisting with a range of tasks.

La Trobe Herbarium Volunteers

All of the day to day activities in the herbarium are carried out by volunteers.

Volunteer tasks can include:

  • mounting specimens
  • specimen data entry
  • nomenclatural updates
  • database management
  • incorporating/filing specimens.

Through this program participants can gain skills in plant science research, herbarium curation, biodiversity bioinformatics, and managing a scientific or historical collection. It is also a great way to meet like-minded students.

What time commitment is expected?

The volunteer program is relaxed and informal. Sessions usually run for 2 hours once a week. Training is provided so all you need is an interest in botany and enthusiasm.
